what's going on???

Besides the beautiful rain (ahhhh!  I'm loving it!!),  I decided to give the blog a whole new look and name.

The name "Little {mrs} Sunshine" is going to be the blog name (for awhile... hopefully.)  I thought it fit pretty perfectly with moving down to Florida (the sunshine state :)  and the whole look of it just makes me cheery.

Anyways, I hope you like it- the content will be exactly the same, I was just itching for a new name & look ;)

So.... how do ya like it?  Does it make you want to take a bite of a huge juicy orange?  Or maybe a watermelon? :)

Shutter Love Tuesday

The theme is "overlays"...
I adjusted the curves to my liking and then did an overlay of milk & honey at 45% opacity...

More to come later- it was a long night! ;)

It's Been A Minute!

I haven't blogged since Saturday (meaning I took a day off on Sunday) and it feels like its been a century.  So weird.

This past weekend kind of stunk.  I'm sicker than ever.  Down four pounds- which isn't that big of a deal, but I dropped the 4 pounds in 2 days...  I'm sure its water weight, but its still kind of stinky how sick I feel.   I made some Thai chicken stuff for the kids and hubby tonight, but I stuck to caffine free pepsi and bread... how fun :)
Other than hibernating, we haven't been up to anything.  One could take this as a good or a bad thing.

On a completely different note, this afternoon, we were watching "Alvin and the Chipmunks," and Maeve said something along the lines of "stupid, stupid, stupid."  No, I don't think stupid is a bad word, but it sounded horrid coming out of my 3 year olds mouth.  In the same second that I asked her where she heard that word from, those 3 obnoxious chipmunks started jumping up and down saying "stupid stupid stupid."  How nice.  I guess I need to screen her movies better.

So a few months ago, while in Florida at a farmers market, I snapped this picture:

I have NO clue who's feet or legs these are.  I do know it ws a girl- probably college aged.  She was sitting, listening to this banjo man.   She was closing her eyes, oblivious to everything that was going on around her.  And she was tapping her toes.  For some reason, I really adore this picture.  It feels rugged and raw.  I have no clue what this girls' story is or where these feet have gone or who they even belong to... maybe its that mystery that I like the most.  Anyway, my sister Emily, made fun of me for taking a picture of "some random girls feet."  I wasn't sure what I'd ever do with the pic, but Allie over at Allie Photography is having a "shoe" contest... and well, I thought of this picture :)  So poo poo on YOU emily :)

Oh... and "Something Different" from the fabulous Faith's blog.

This was one of those luck of the "snap" pictures- I caught a really cool sun ball.  I originally didn't do anything with this photo, because Henry's eyes are closed... but I figured it would be a perfect entry into "Something Different" right? :)

I'm hoping to host a photo contest myself sometime in the near future... I have such a blast looking and linking up with everyone.  We shall see if I can come up with something... I am probably the least computer-tech person ever, meaning I have no clue how to make a button or anything like that.  Anyhow, its just a thought :)

I think that's all for now...

Happy Monday (night)!

New Years Eve 2010

  • a good walk on the beach (we have a high of 75 today :)
  • BBQ for lunch
  • naps
  • Japanese steak house for dinner
  • fireworks off the pier

2010 was a crazy year!  Lots of ups and downs... although, sitting here, and reflecting, I think it was filled with more ups than downs... which is a good thing.

I'm ready for the new year- I have a feeling it's going to be exciting.  We have so much ahead of us.  At times, it feels a tad overwhelming,... but ready or not, here we go!

Happy New Year!

skyday.

We're packing up, trying to squeeze a birthday load of stuff into our suit cases, saying good byes and getting ready to launch ourselves into the craziness of the Orlando International Airport. Blah.

I told Maeve we're going back to Michigan today and she said, very matter-of factly- "No, I'm not. I'll stay here." My thoughts exactly bug! :)

Today is November 29th. I have ONE more day, and I've officially blogged every day throughout the month of November.

Saturday, November 27, 2010

So...CLOSE.

We're closing in on the end of November. I have blogged each and every day- I am SO CLOSE to being a "NoBloPoMo" success this year!

Now, if only I had something really entertaining to blog about.

Without pictures, and only a few quick minutes on the computer, my blog posting has been a tad.... newsworthy.

Hang in there blog readers. I've filled up two CF cards and I have stories spilling out my ears.

That is all for today.

the results.

So I'm not as weird as I thought! Here are the results from that ever so important poll post I made with the help of my pal, insomnia.
36 peeps voted... and here's how it panned out... oh, and because you're dying to know... my answers are included. BAHAH.

Question #1: How many kids would complete your family?
2 kids- 15 people (41,67%)
3 kids- 9 people(25,00%)
4 kids- 8 people (22,22%)
5 kids- 2 people(5,56%)
1 kid- 1 person (2,78%)
6 kids- 1 BRAVE person! :) (2,78%)

My answer was, 4 :) Surprise, surprise- how many times have I blogged about that magic number? Now, don't be shy, who's the lady who wants 6 babies? Post a comment you brave wonder woman you! :)

Question #2: Favorite flower (what riveting questions I came up with)

Other (please comment!) 13 people (40,63%)
Peonies -8 people (25,00%)
Daisies -7 people (21,88%)
Roses 4- 4 people (12,50%)
Magnolias -0 NO LOVE for the mags?!?!?! (0,00%)

Apparently, along with being a less than fab poll questioner, I'm also not buffed up on my horticulture. The majority (40% derrr) picked "other." And because you're sitting on the edge of your seat, saying "PLEASE Ashley... PLEASE tell us what your favorite flower is!!!!" I will... peonies all the way please :)

Question #3- Would you rather go to the dentist or throw up?

Go to the Dentist- 24 people(77,42%)
Throw up- 7 people (22,58%)

AWWWW YEAH- keepin' it real by going to the dentist! This question randomly popped into my head because I spent last weekend with the porcelain bowl. I hadn't puked in so long, and got a fast slap in the face with how much it truly sucks. I thought of some other sucky things in life... came up with the dentist, and that's where THAT piece of randomness came from. Surprisingly, even with my bad luck with getting teeth pulled and such, I would still rather go to the dentist than blow chunks... that's just me though (and apparently 77% of you blog readers :)

Question#... lesser of two evils- birth or breaking a bone?

breaking a bone -15 people (68,18%)
giving birth -7 people (31,82%)

I have to say I was super surprised by this one. I was positive that breaking a bone would get 100%. So who out there, in their right mind, would rather go through the horrors of labor than break a bone? I didn't even specify the bone... it could be a little bone... like a pinky finger, ya know? Hands down, I'd pick a little snap rather than a blow out any day. You 7 people who chose birth must have had those births where the babies practically walk out, and rainbows and unicorns fill the room. And then baby feeds perfectly, your stomach shrinks back to normal, everyone sings "Happy Birthday" and you look like heaven (ANGIE)... I did not have those births. Therefore, I'd rather break something. ;)

Question#5- boy or girl? (are you...)

girrrrrl! -27 people (100,00%)
manly man -0 (0,00%)

I picked "girl." just to let you know :)

Question #6- salty or sweet?

cupcakes, brownies, ice cream and sugar cubes -17 people (60,71%)
pickles, chips, pretzels and a salt lick -11 people (39,29%)

Yahhhhh! I've got sweet toofers with me! :) Did you know that I often "sacrifice" my dinner just so I can eat some horribly fattening sweet thing for dessert? Yup, I do.

Question #7- Do you sleep with the tv on or off?

off -19 people (70,37%)
on -8 people(29,63%)

Could this be the root of my sleeping problems? The fact that "River Monsters" and "Dr. G, Medical Examiner" are playing all night long? Hmm....

Question#8- Can you touch your head to your toes?

yes- 15 people (57,69%)
no -11 no(42,31%)

More than half of my blog can bend their body in half tickle their hair with their toes. Ha.... I'm in the other half. The whole having babies thing has really morphed my body (in case I haven't complained enough about it)... I am that mom in the grocery store who squats down to pick up a bag of dog food, and then has to brace myself while the stars and dizziness spin in my head.

Question #9- do you like your name?

yes- 22 people(88,00%)
no -3 people (12,00%)

awwwww 88 PERCENT of you embrace your name :) that's awesome! I don't. (sorry mom and dad) but the name ASHLEY kind of reminds me of shaggy dog or something... right?

Question #10- Do you suffer from insomnia and do stupid things like (THIS) to kill time?

no- 14 people(56,00%)
yes- 11 people(44,00%)

Well I'm happy that more than 50% of you get some good sleep! But then again, be thankful for the 44% of us who don't- because then you wouldn't have super official, captivating surveys like this one to complete and read.

Now you can say that 57% of Ashley's blog readers can touch their head to their toes. WOW.

And with that...
happy Saturday night! :) -and thanks for playing along ;)

I'm LABELED.

It took me about 3 weeks. NOT KIDDING.

But I have labeled my blog posts. ALL 600+ posts.

There's a sweet post to come later on... but I thought I'd let you all know what the billions of words on the right of my blog were.

And yes its true, I have 33 TMI posts (OMG.) and 18 POOP posts. WOW. What interesting reading material I have here...

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Well, Hello There.

You've stumbled upon my blog!

I wasn't sure I wanted anyone to stumble upon it. I'm still not positive I like the idea. But... alas, things must be said and done.

Firstly, my mom and grandma who are incredibly bright, but lack computer skills, cannot figure out the whole password/email/private blog thing. The point of this blog (well, there are lots of reasons I write...) was to keep an online journal of sorts. I thought the blog would be 100% about my kids. For those of you who've kept up with this, you know that my kids are mentioned in just about every post, but more so, this blog has turned into my "private" therapy.

It's super (I mean, SUPER, SUPER) scary for me to go "public." Who knows what dirt you could dig up on me... :) But I figure if you care enough to dig around all my posts, searching for incriminating evidence or embarrassing photos, then you, yourself have some issues that may need to be addressed :) -I say that most kindly-

Because I can assure you, though my blog is pretty interesting (haaaah) its not worth spending your time pilfering through old posts. Even if you find an old post, and comment, I won't respond back... So lets just start fresh and new, eh?

So... welcome. Leave a comment- don't be shy- I'd love to know who is reading my ramblings :)

Happy Thursday!

PS- I just added the "Follow" feature (located on the upper right hand side of the blog)- I wanna feel some blog love... follow me! :)

OMGEEEEEEEEEEEE.

What can I say? Really, what can I say for abandoning this blog for like ummm....3 weeks???!?!?!?!?!?! WOW. GUILT is sweeping over me ;) I actually do feel pretty bad about leaving y'all hanging in the middle of this AMAZING leg warmers give away! haah! :) So... without further ado, the winner of a pair of handmade, crocheted with love leg warmers from yours truly is.....
SARAH COLE!

Sarah- facebook me about the size/color you want. I can make a pair for next fall/winter if you'd like. :)

Onto more business... I'm sure you all know we just got back from Florida- if you don't know you must be hiding under a rock because I updated facebook about 300000000 times- I am fairly sure I had a number of "friends" boot me from their friend list out of pure annoyance. BUT if I've still got your attention... well, good. Because I am going to be uploading pics & posting in waves. I don't want to forget a second (well maybe a few seconds are worth forgetting forever...ehhhh) of this trip, so I'm starting the Disney posts NOW. (Henry's sleeping, Maeve's eating- I've got about 5 minutes at LEAST! :)

Anywho, thanks for reading. Thanks for staying tuned. :)

stilllllll hereee!

I promise I will post some updates soon. I just wanted to let you all know I am still alive! I'm just suuuuper tired and busy. AND whenever I get a free second (like now- the baby is sleeping, Maeve is in her crib TRYING to get to sleep) all I want to do is lay in bed... not sit on the computer. But stick with me... someday I will get into a routine & have some energy back!

Correction.

So apparently I have completely contradicted myself! In a previous post I said I wanted something neutral and not overly "baby" for the new nursery. And then after looking around a bit, come to find out, I really like airplanes & farm animals :) with that being said, I'm going to delete the last post and poll just because I have a feeling my mind will change a thousand more times until I actually paint the room. I'll post pictures when its finished!

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

stay tuned..

big changes are happening around the house! Maeve is getting a room overhaul (transitioning from a baby nursery theme to a garden/princess room- and yes, as I've been working on this, there have been lots of tears shed- how is my baby not THE baby anymore???) and the new baby's room (which was the guest room/computer/exercise room) has been completely gutted out- just as of last night- and is now empty and ready to be painted and filled with nursery stuff. Now I have to decide what nursery theme to go with... I have a few ideas but I change my mind daily. I hate cars, construction equipment, sports of any sort and zoo animals so all of those are completely out. Which leaves me with not a whole lot... but I've found a few cute ideas that I could live with. SO...... STAY TUNED! :)

Our newest addition...

or I should say, MAEVE'S newest addition to her toy infantry! We lucked out big time with this one! :) We've been looking for a gently used outside play toy- like a slide or a jungle gym type thing... ya know, those awesome big plastic toys little tikes makes. Anyways I go on Craigslist about 30 times a day searching for an affordable, not too outdated toy. Yesterday I hit gold! I found one of those castle/pirate ship play toys- ya know, the one with a mini rock wall to climb, a swing and a slide. I found it for $50.00- buuuuuut I emailed the lady and asked her if she'd accept 35- she said yes! :) SO Ryan went and picked it up tonight. It's awesome! And it kept Maeve occupied for a good hour. It's in great condition- the only noticeable "issue" is the telescope that is supposed to be attached to the top of the tower is broken off. No biggie though- all Maeve cares about is climbing and sliding! I'll post some pics sometime soon... anyways, as you can see, little things really excite me :)

Not Much To Talk About...

I know it seems like my posts are few and far between lately- its true, they are. To be honest, there hasn't been much to write about. That isn't to say that there isn't a lot going on- there is! But nothing for me to write about at this point...

So, what have we been up to? Not a whole lot- a few exciting things here and there- two nights ago we took out Maeve's potty :) YES! So far she hasn't done much with it besides taking the lid off and putting it around her neck (YIKES) but she's been showing more and more signs that she is done with the diapers. So the potty is just sitting there waiting :)

Maeve is in the midst of popping her last 4 teeth (besides her 2 year molars). I CANNOT BELIEVE she is a toddler with a complete mouth full of teeth- mind blowing! She has actually been sleeping OKAY at night, naps however, have been non-existent. I've also noticed she is so much more in tune with whats going on around her- she knows almost every place we're going. It's adorable and cracks me up- we pull onto Morrell (heading for my parents house) and she starts saying "Nana, Poppa!" Last night we went to "Maggie Moos" and she started saying "Mmmmmmm!" as soon as we pulled in the parking lot. I also noticed yesterday as we were driving to "Maggie Moos" that as we passed by "Pet Supplies Plus" she started saying "Meeeeoooooow, meeeeeoooow!" She's a smart little thing! :) Oh and I can't forget going to Target this morning- haha, we pulled in the parking lot and she started saying "hop, hop, hop." I was thinking, "what the heck is she talking about?" And as soon as we got in there I remembered- Target is littered with Easter bunnies! They're hanging from the ceiling all throughout the store and Maeve just happens to be in LOVE with bunnies at the moment.

As for Ryan and I? We are SO looking forward to Florida! Its coming up quickly but somehow it still seems too far away. My family is down there right now and my mom doesn't miss a chance to call me and remind me of how sunny and WARM it is. Nice of her to do huh?

Well I should have a good post for this weekend- we're taking Maeve to Ann Arbor to visit the "Hands On" Museum. And of course, we're going to take full advantage of the wonderful dining options up there! Keep checking back, I promise at some point there will be more interesting things happening!

I've Entered The World of WEBKINZ...

help me now! My mom, Maeve and I were walking through the crossings today and Maeve ran in a store and grabbed this pink platypus "Webkinz" animal. She wouldn't put the thing down so my mom insisted on buying it for her- I kept saying "MOOOOOOM we have a million stuffed animals all over the house! NO MORE! -plus she's getting her "Elmo live" on Sat!!!! :) But my mom did her usual thing "She liiiiikes it Ashley." And the platypus was bought... and into the world of Webkinz I dove.

See, I have been hearing a ton of stuff about those animals and since I am a frequent toy shop shopper, I see them everywhere. And yeah, I think they're cute and its adorable how they make like every single animal you can imagine (this store had HOOT owls!?! What kid would want a scary looking owl???) but I didn't see what was so cool about them. That was........... until I registered and adopted "Sarie", the pink platypus.

Haha, it was soooo cute- we got home and I handed over the duck to Maeve while I took the special coded tag :) I registered Maeve so maybe eventually she can play with her virtual duck... but I named it "Sarie" (it looked like a sarie to me?) and today I spent a good 2 hours playing games earning webkinz points to feed and clothe the thing!!!!!! HAHA! Ryan is making fun of me :) Whatever, its cool and now I'm addicted. What is MaeMae getting in her Easter basket this year??? WEBKINZ!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Running...

That's how I feel this past weekend/week has gone- like I am constantly on the move, running from one thing to the next. In a way, its nice cause it kills time and gets me closer to summer, spring break, all that good stuff, on the other hand, it exhaauuuussssts me! I blogged about our busy weekend the other day, and Monday & Tuesday have been no exception to the craziness. Monday, I was supposed to have an appointment up in Ann Arbor, but found out just minutes before leaving the house that my doc. was sick and therefore, it was canceled :( UGH it was like mid-morning... too late to go work out at the Y (I had missed my class), too early to go do anything else... so I went over to my moms house :) She took Maeve and I out for lunch and then I had to rush through grocery shopping with a sleepy, cranky bubba. I thought I had bought everything needed for tacos... wrong- after Maeve woke up from her nap we ran back out to the store for sour cream, onions and avacado. Usually, I am super lazy during her naps, I either nap myself, or sit on the computer wasting time... but Monday our house seriously looked nasty- our floors were covered with dog hair, Ponce had ruffled a few of his feathers out onto the shelves/floor, the counters were covered with groceries and my suitcase from Florida was STILL packed on the floor of our bedroom... so needless to say I spent Maeves naptime "RUNNING" from thing to thing trying to accomplish as much as possible... ahhhh makes me sleepy just thinking about it. After her nap and "RUNNING" back to the grocery store for those extras, I came home and attempted dinner- MaeMae was starving and clinging to my leg as I hobbled from counter to counter. I was literally staring at the clock waiting for 5:30 to come... FINALLY Ryan came home and rescued me (by taking Maeve :) and I finished dinner... I personally hate tacos, but they're one of Ryan's faves. so I make them from time to time. I myself heated up chips & cheese. yuck. Maeve ate avacado, cheese and a soft taco shell. Ryan ate the rest :) haha...
Today, AGAIN, woke up with every intention of going to the Y, but instead found myself at the doctor with my mom, who had another one of her heart episodes. Scary stuff- my dad had called and said that she was being taken to Michigan Heart because her heart was racing and she was feeling faint, numb, etc. BTW, just a little background info, this happens to her like once every few months- its terrifying- everytime my dad calls telling me that, I'm thinking "this is it! She's having a heart attack!" And I completely freak out... today was no different... I got Maeve packed in the car super fast and raced across town to MHeart. They didn't tell us anything when we got there... we just had to wait and wait. Eventually (around 12:30- yes Maeve was incredibly angry about having such a late lunch!!!) my dad called (who was back with my mom) and said that she was okay and they'd be out in a second. PHEW! What a load off... I can't tell you how stressfull this is for all of us! Like I said, this happens quite often... anywyas out came my mom- she was acting funny but she was okay. They released her and she went home and napped. I went home, with the same intentions, but again got wrapped up in other things that needed to be done. Around 3:30 it was time for work- blah!!! After work though, my wonderful husband, who knows how hard I take it when stuff happens to my mom, took me and maemae out to Olive Garden :) YEA! No cooking & wiiiiiinnnne! :)
I am about to go to sleep (its 9 here and I've got a huge headache) but I just had to blog to say how thankful I am for my mom being okay today, for my health, for Ryan & Maeve's. And again, how lucky I am to have Ryan... he can always pick me up when I'm down... (after dinner we booked our airline tix for spring break which cheered me up even more haha)
If you have time, say a prayer for my mom- we're just not sure what is going on with her heart or blood pressure. She's only 48 and is super active... we just don't know whats going on. And its incredibly stressful for all of us, especially her :(

Weekend Recapppp...

Woah! pretty busy around here this weekend- good stuff, good stuff. Friday night, Ryan and I decided we needed a DATE- like all by ourselves, at a nice restaurant, etc. So my mom babysat Maeve and Ryan and I headed out to "Daryls." It was sooooooo bizarre being by ourselves- really I know this sounds pathetic- but we never, EVER go anywhere by ourselves! First off, because we loooove having Maeve with us, 2nd because sometimes its more of a pain to get a babysitter than its worth, and 3rd, when we do go out its usually Applebees and its Maeves fave! SO no joking here- I cannot honestly remember the last time we went out ALONE- I am going to take a wild stab and say maybe sometime over the summer???? YIKKKES! That's bad! I know its so important to get some alone time in there, but honestly, I end up missing the bug and would rather just have her with us! :) As it was, ALLLLLLLLL we talked about was Maeve! hah... we've really turned into those old people that turn in early and get tipsy from one glass of wine :) That's okay though...

Saturday, Ryan had his class ALL day long- BOO. So Maeve and I went book shopping- we found some good kids books on super sale... we also picked up a few things for Ponce and the puppies. In the afternoon, Maeve took her nap, I took a nap, and Ryan got home an hour early from his class... we were kind of desperate for something to do- that all 3 of us could do, that wouldn't require mass amounts of money. We decided it might be fun to take Maeve to a mens gymnastics meet up at UMICH. 3 bucks a person? Can't beat that!!! It turned out to be an awesome night- Maeve loved the meet- the entire women's gymnastics team was there, rooting on their mens team, and Maeve won them all over with her clapping and screaming "Yeaaaaahh!" So that was pretty cool :) She even grabbed one of their purses and I didn't notice it until they were all laughing- I turned around and said "OMG I am so sorry!" and they were like "NO! She is fine! She's more entertaining than the meet!" For those that don't know, I get star struck really easily... so I was in complete awe of these girls and the fact that Maeve was socializing with them!!! We're going to go to a women's meet one of these Friday nights and I'm hoping they'll remember her and take some pics w/ her :)
Sunday came with a wonderful surprise- Maeve slept in until TEN!!!!!!!!!! WOAHHHHH! We kept checking on her- we were in complete shock that she was fine- just sleeping! ahhhh it was so incredibly nice to just relax in the AM :) At ten, Maeve woke up and was ravenous- after all, she's used to eating breakfast between 7:30-8. So we took her out to "Alpha Omega" our fave. grease pit... she digs the oatmeal there and we love the sausage.... also, its great because its right in the mall, so we usually hit up Target and take Maeve for a visit to Toys 'R Us. We never buy anything at TRU (our house IS a toy house!!!!) but they have this dinosaur set up that she LOOOOOOOVES. She pushes the button and gets the biggest kick out of it stomping and roaring around... we also let her out of the cart when we get to the stuffed animal section and she goes nuts running around doing all her animal noises. Anyways, its a good way to get out of the house and kill some time. :)
Tonight, we went to my parents house for a great dinner- YUM. And on our way home I had maeve in my lap (we live like 10 seconds from their house, so sometimes instead of putting her in the car seat I sit in the back with her on my lap) WELL, she head butted me SO HARD and so straight-on, square in the nose... I heard a nasty crack and instantly tears were rolling down my cheeks and my face was soaked with snot. I was yelling "RYAN SHE BROKE MY NOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" So we got inside and took a look- she didn't hit it sideways, so it doesn't LOOK broken... its probably not... but I SWEAR I heard a crack and it freeeaaked me out. I took a shower and Ryan gave maeve her bath... and the entire time I was in the shower I kept blowing my nose- it feels like there is something up there- but I think its just swollen or something... UGH who knows. I have sneezed like a thousand times though...
Tomorrow I was planning on the Y, but just looked at the calender for this week and realized I have an appointment in AA tomorrow morning... that means ANOTHER day I am missing my workout... BLAAAAAH! And I ate so bad this weekend! YIKES!!!! I really gotta jump back on the workout/dieting thing cause I am going to undo all the hard work I've already done!!! SO frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh update on Ponce... for all you bird haters, he is an awesome buuuuurdy, as Maeve calls him! :) I am not sure if he's stunned by the noise in our house or what, but he just kind of hangs out- doesn't make noise or anything... he sits on our fingers and is perfect as can be! Hopefully he stays that way... I don't want a nasty, mean, loud bird! But for now, all is good :)
