ehhhhh.... what a weekend.

***I guess I should have a disclaimer for this post... its gross***

This entire weekend I've been up to my elbows in poopy diapers (and not good poop- wait is there "GOOD" poop?).
It all started Friday morning. I gave Maeve a bath, put a diaper on her and set her in the floor- as soon as her feet hit the floor she squatted, made one big push and SPLAT- her diaper was blown out just like that... poopies everywhere. SO back in the bath we went. The whole time she was in the bath she was having toots- and I could see some poopy flakes swimming around in the water which was really grossing me out. Out of the bath, into another diaper and not more than 5 minutes "SPLAT" goes another one. I was trying to think what the heck she ate that could be giving her an upset tummy... she was acting completely normal though- no fever, not lethargic at all... so I figured maybe it was too much milk at breakfast or something. No more diarrhea to speak of the rest of Friday night...

THEN came Saturday. I had actually forgotten all about the diarrhea explosions from the day before, and took Maeve out to a garage sale & to the mall to see the tigers for a bit. She was definitely acting a little funny- very, VERY clingy- more so than usual. But I still wasn't really thinking much of it. On the way home from the mall I smelled this horrific smell- okay- this is gross, but you know the how there is a difference between diarrhea smell and normal poopy smell? Well it was that awful, acidic diarrhea smell- ughhhhhhhhhhh. Yes, another giant explosion greeted me as we got home. I fed her lunch- a banana, some oatmeal and WATER- she threw it all on the floor. Hmmm... put her to bed around 1:00 PM- she woke up around 4 (3 HOUR NAP!?!?!) burning up with a fever. I knew instantly as soon as I picked her up she had a fever. Her cheeks were red, she was sweaty and yes, she had pooped out another diaper. Her temp yesterday hovered between 100-101, even with motrin & tylenol. I started pushing the fluids like mad yesterday afternoon- she's gone through a 2 liter of sprite in 2 days... yes, lots of sugar, but according to the doc. warm sprite is the best thing to settle a stomach (plus she thinks its a huge treat). She slept through the night- just woke up super early- around 6 or so- with another yucky diaper.
To sum up today, its gone a lot like this:
slather her behind with destin, put a diaper on, wait for the squat & splat, gently- GENTLY wipe her up, stick her in a bath (her poor little booty is SO SO SORE. It is beat red and she can't even walk with her legs together- how sad!) slather with destin, put a diaper on, wait for squat & splat, etc. etc. etc. She's had about 9 diarrhea diapers today (THANK GOD RYAN IS HOME TO HELP!!!) and about 20 baths to soak her bum. The fever is still around 100- it just won't go away! She is HOT- and I keep taking her temp. thinking its got to be higher than 100 but its not thank goodness... I guess she's just hot. Anyways it looks like we'll be visiting Dr. Williams in the morning if her temp stays around. Even if it is just a stomach bug, almost 3 days of a fever warrants a visit.
I know I've asked before and I have referenced back to some older posts- but any remedies for really bad diaper rash besides different types of pastes? Maeve about has a conniption when we try and touch her butt- she loves to soak in the tub- she sits on her knees so her booty doesn't touch the bath tub floor and will just sit like that... I was thinking if there is any kind of soak I could come up with for the bath that would ease the pain, she'd probably love that.

Balmex has always worked for me. Also, try mixing cortaid and neosporin and that will make it not hurt. Get the Neo that has the pain relief in it. Also top all that off with plain old cornstarch, like the kind you cook with. Also letting her run around nakey is a great thing! If not, use your blow dryer on cool on her bum an china after every change. AND use a washcloth to clean her poops cause wipes sting! Hang in there sister. Sounds awful, poor Maeve!!

I've heard baking soda in a bath tub too, you can also get a precription for cream...the script has really has helped my kids and if you want to be brave--actually it's what I always do--let her run around naked! I know you probably don't want to risk a "splat" (without a diaper) on the floor, but I think it helps a lot!

I was in Jackson this afternoon, thought maybe I'd run into you doing your weekly deals or at Gymboree :), guess you were busy taking care of a sick little one. Lincon has had diareah for 5 days now too, but I think his is from teething...no fever, etc. Good luck!

okay so I totally should have read "Kase and Jules" before I read, I agree with everything she said :) sorry for the duplicate advice...including the washcloth! I ALWAYS use a washcloth when they're red down there :)

I love the Aquaphor healing ointment for diaper rash. It seems to clear it up much faster than Desitin...in my experience anyways. Give it a try! Hope Maeve gets to feeling better...poor girl. It's no fun being sick, and it's no fun being the Mommy of a sick child - that's for sure! Let me know when she's 100% better and we'll schedule another playdate:)

thanks everyone :)

the fever has been gone now since yesterday around 7 PM or so- crossing my fingers its GONE. I'm still sticking with super bland foods (which she is hating) just in case.

Shelby- I didn't get to go anywhere yesterday :( Maeve literally just wanted to cuddle and lay down allllll day long. I would've LOVED to run into you!!!! Did you take the kids to westwood to see the tigers?

Ah I didn't take the kids with me at all, which was wonderful! I had a baby shower up there to go to so I left from here early and went shopping. I did see the tigers and I may or may not have taken a picture I wasn't suppose to take :) for the kids to see.

Did you go to Gymboree this weekend? They had the friends and family sale...I got a lot of good stuff plus gymbucks :).

haha- those tiger people were CRAZY with their donations! I tried to take a pic & they went nuts saying I had to donate money in order to take a pic. Which, fine, I understand that- but I didn't buy that the money was going to the tigers- did you? I don't know the whole thing looked kind of hokey to me... hmmm...
YES I used my friends & fam- I bought the baby some cute puppy dog stuff & a super cheap swimsuit. I also got some of those newborn essential things- I am waiting on getting Maeve fall clothes until they go cheaper. A few months ago they messed up my credit card & charged it twice- (which we fixed right away) but they felt bad so they gave me a 30% percent off coupon to use and it doesn't expire until NEXT august! So I'm going to wait for one of those red balloon sales and stock up on summer stuff for next year & some fall stuff for Maeve. The baby is actually set for fall and winter- all he needs are a ton of sleepers. Maeve however, has nothing- so I gotta get going on that! WOW kids are expensive huh??? It seems like every time I turn around I am packing Maeve's clothes away and buying a whole brand new wardrobe for her!
