Random Ramblings... again :)

Ahhh Tuesday morning! Usually Tuesdays are great because they go by so fast- we usually go out to the studio around 11 and my mom watches Maeve while I clean the gym up. Then we go out for lunch (Maeve, mom and I) and then its nap time! :):):) Maeve naps till about 3 or so, then we get ready to go BACK out to the studio- gotta be there by 3:45-ish. And I teach for a couple of hours then its back home for dinner :) See? Tuesdays go by in a flash! Tonight we are doing our weekly "breakfast" night. I used to be the #1 fan of this meal, but now that title belongs to Maeve- she LOVES breakfast!!! I mean, chocolate chip pancakes, oatmeal, eggs and milk? Is there a more kid friendly meal than that? We always strip her down and let her just go at it. She loves it!!! :) I enjoy our breakfast night for 2 reasons- 1, I love breakfast, 2- Ryan and I are actually in the kitchen together cooking- its fun! I am pretty lucky though when it comes to cooking- you guys are probably going to shun me, but I really only cook 3 days a week!!! Yup, thats it! I am soooo not the mom who can plan meals well and figure out a 7 day meal plan all under fifty bucks. I just can't do it! Luckily our schedule complies with my laziness... :) I cook Monday, Tuesday and Wed. Thursday night, Ryan has class till 10, so I usually heat up a can of ravioli for Maeve and I to split. Friday, we go out with my parents for dinner (YEA!!! LOVE FRIDAYS!) Saturdays we go out by ourselves for dinner (and you can bet its applebees!) Sundays we just lay around the house and eat whatever we can find. So yeah, I only have to plan for three measly meals! Yet I STILL have issues with finding new, easy meals to make. Our menu usually has some sort of Italian thing on it (thats the easiest stuff to make) and of course our breakfast fare... so really its ONE meal that is throwing me off- I can't ever figure out a 3rd thing to make! Although recently I've been cooking chicken pot pies like crazy- I make a HUGE batch of the filling and then I just keep filling pie crusts! :) Last week we had TWO pot pies sitting in our fridge...

On a totally different page- this has nothing to do with cooking- I have been tossing and turning this idea over in my head. Homeschooling!!??? I never thought in a million years that I would ever homeschool my kids. But teaching gymnastics to hundreds of little ones every week has opened my eyes in a big way! I have all types of kids- homeschoolers, catholic school students, public, private schooled students. My best experiences have been with homeschoolers. They, HANDS DOWN, have the best attitudes, the best manners, and over all, the best outlook! They're smart, they're quick, they're kind and well adjusted. After the election, my mom and I were talking about how different things are now versus when she was a kid, or even when I was a kid. Its frightening to think what some schools are teaching the kids. Remember that whole deal with the Pledge of Allegiance?? About how it should be taken out of schools because it says "One Nation Under God?" My children will know the pledge and proudly say "One nation under God." Also, when I was a kid we used to do this pledge to the cross (granted I was at Trinity) but I think it when it comes time for school, we're not going to have the money to send our kids to private, Christian schools. There are so many core beliefs that I want my children to know- and not just hear about once a week at Sunday school. And sure, I could make it a point to talk about Jesus and His word with them after school, but really? What kid wants to go to school all day and then come and sit down and read Bible verses? I'd rather just incorporate His word into their school work and of course, obviously, into our everyday lives. It really makes sense when you think about it. I just want to make sure Maeve is getting the most out of everyday and learning what she should really be learning. And of course, in any public school (especially 5 years from now) there will be no religion allowed... and that's just not acceptable to me. There is still so much to read about and so much to think about when it comes to homeschooling. But it is definitely a thought that is tossed around in my head. Who knows what we will end up doing... I feel like some of the most important things I want Maeve to know and learn, she couldn't learn sitting in a classroom. Another perk to homeschooling? VACATIONS whenever we want- meaning we don't have to vacay during spring break and pay those crazy high spring break rates! HAhaha... just another check on the "YES" side :)

Hi lady! Your Tuesdays sound so fulfilling and fun, I'm jealous! Have to counter part of your public school theory because I am obviously a huge advocate for public schools as I will only teach in innercity schools!! And I know it's not this way in all schools, but I am in the poorest school in GR and our kids say the pledge every day still, and my co-first grade teacher is a very devout Christian (she grew up in Haiti, her parents are missionaries through my church), and she talks about God often, and is allowed to! Just today we talked about giving thanks to God in reference to Thanksgiving! But who knows, if I am living in downtown Chicago when I have kids, I'll probably be homeschooling too, so its not a bad idea, just had to throw it out there that public schools aren't all awful or anti-religion! And I am allowed to teach the story of Jesus' birth at Christmas too--as long as I teach other celebrations too-so I'm doing a 'holidays around the world' unit, but I can always squeeze in what I believe, and amp it up, legally! So...some public are still great :) :)

Love to you and that adorable miss maebug! See you at Thanksgiving??
